How Much Does Website Maintenance Cost in Ireland?

A plain-speaking guide to care plans, hosting, backups and support — and why two monthly prices may cover very different work.

At a glance

Published offers, not a market average.

Eolas & DigiMark tiers€30–€150/moPublished monthly prices · scope varies
Digitally Sound tiers€80–€500/moPublished monthly prices · plus VAT
Maslen Website Care€25/moLaunch price · see exact terms below

Published Irish website-care offers range from €30/month for defined technical maintenance to €500/month for broader service with several hours of work. These prices do not buy the same thing.

A plan may cover updates, hosting, backups, support or content work; VAT and onboarding differ too. Compare responsibilities and year-one cost, not a supposed national average. The offers below were checked on 28 October 2026; they are not a like-for-like ranking.

01 / Published offers

A price is only useful with its scope.

These are individual offers, not a ranking. “From” prices, annual payments and monthly commitments may have different terms; confirm scope and current price before choosing.

Prices and key differences are shown first. Open a provider’s plan details for the full inclusions and caveats.

WordPress care, either on your current host or with managed hosting.

Full plan details

The external plan is €59/month or €590/year; managed WordPress hosting and care is €69/month or €690/year. OTTA says it is not VAT-registered and adds no VAT. External care updates core, themes and plugins every two weeks, with urgent security updates sooner; it includes basic checks, a backup-availability check, basic security and uptime monitoring, initial fault investigation and email support with a two-business-day response target. Managed care includes hosting, SSL, server backups, routine maintenance, backup checks and restoration when required, basic security monitoring and priority email with a one-business-day response target. Significant existing faults may need a separate repair first. The plans exclude non-WordPress sites, large online shops and guaranteed out-of-hours emergencies. With external hosting, server outages, hosting-account issues and the host’s backup reliability remain outside OTTA’s control. The page does not state a setup fee.

Design WaveCare €250/month · host €150/monthAd hoc €100/hour · VAT/setup not stated

WordPress updates, checks, security and edits; hosting is a separate charge.

Full plan details

Care includes monthly WordPress core, theme and plugin updates with checks, security, regular backups, content edits and design changes. Hosting is separate at €150/month and includes daily backups; ad-hoc help is €100/hour. The page does not state an edit allowance, VAT basis or setup fee. Do not assume edits are unlimited.

Keep the basis attached to the price. These offers range from update-focused tiers to care with hosting, support or work allowances. Published VAT, onboarding and hosting separation matter more than ranking by monthly fee.

02 / Separate the jobs

Hosting is not the same as maintenance.

Hosting is the server and infrastructure that keeps a site online. It may include SSL, server backups or monitoring, but a host may not update WordPress, test forms or edit content. Some offers bundle hosting; others charge separately or support an externally hosted site.

Technical maintenance covers recurring tasks such as core/theme/plugin updates, checks, backups and selected security or availability monitoring. Ask how often updates happen, what is checked afterward and who restores a failed update; “updates included” does not answer those questions.

Support and management are broader: a support channel, ticket or response target may help when something breaks, while full management can add content publishing, design changes, technical SEO, speed work or development. Response targets are not resolution deadlines or out-of-hours cover. Check the stated hours or work allowance: a hands-on €150 plan is not equivalent to update-focused €35 care.

What a monthly fee usually does not settle by itself

A plan name does not settle who pays for a domain, premium plugins, email or third-party tools. Rebuilding a theme, repairing a hack, writing copy or developing a new feature may be separately quoted. Agree the boundary so routine care does not become open-ended work.

For backups, check off-server storage, retention, restoration cost and whether recovery is tested. A daily copy alone does not explain what can be restored or how.

Monthly, annual and once-off charges

For year one, multiply a monthly fee by twelve, then show stated onboarding, separate hosting, confirmed VAT and optional work separately. An annual offer may discount payment upfront: OTTA lists €590/year beside €59/month; DigiMark calls €300/€600/€1,200 “once off yearly discounted price.” Those are annual prices, not setup fees.

Greenberry lists a €199 onboarding fee on each plan. Other cited pages do not state a setup fee; ask for a total rather than treating silence as zero. Compare renewal years separately, excluding one-off onboarding but retaining recurring costs, and confirm renewal/cancellation terms.

03 / Site type and complexity

The platform changes the shape of care.

WordPress sites

WordPress care coordinates core, theme and plugin updates. A simple brochure site differs from a customised site with a page builder, booking or payment tools. Ask whether updates are staged, backed up and checked afterward. OTTA excludes non-WordPress sites and large shops; Greenberry’s listed care is for external WordPress sites.

Custom-built websites

Custom builds still need dependency, hosting, certificate, deployment, backup and application checks. Clarify what the host maintains versus what needs a developer; record account ownership, deployment and recovery steps in the handover.

Shops and higher-complexity sites

For shops, bookings, membership or connected apps, faults in checkout, stock, payments or integrations can have operational impact. Quote for relevant staged updates, recovery checks and escalation rather than assuming every complex site needs the largest plan. Infrastructure-heavy sites may require a separate arrangement for capacity, retention, restoration and third-party costs.

Agree which real user journeys are checked after updates—such as an enquiry form or a safe checkout test. The checks should match the site and be stated, not assumed.

04 / What changes the quote

Price the responsibility, not just the label.

Price depends on the site’s condition, required work and responsibility. Share its address, platform, host and known issues; an existing site may need review before a provider confirms eligibility or price.

01 / Site condition

Is it stable enough to maintain?

Outdated software, failed backups, malware or unresolved errors may need a one-off repair first. OTTA notes significant existing issues may need repair; InstaIT quotes major repairs separately.

02 / Work allowance

How much change is included?

Compare hours, tickets and minor edits; 30 minutes differs from eight hours. Ask how larger work is approved and whether unused time rolls over.

03 / Hosting and recovery

Who holds the infrastructure?

Confirm included hosting, account access, backup location/retention and restoration cost. “Backups included” does not explain recovery responsibility.

04 / Response and exclusions

What happens when a problem appears?

Clarify support hours, emergency route and whether targets mean response or resolution. Check exclusions such as new pages, development, major repairs and third-party outages.

05 / A practical comparison

Ask every provider the same questions.

Send each provider the same site details and needs. Compare written scope, not package labels or monthly prices alone.

  1. What is the price and term?Record monthly/annual rates, discounts, renewal, cancellation and whether the price is “from”.
  2. What is the VAT basis?Ask whether VAT is added and the total invoice amount; do not infer another provider’s status.
  3. Is hosting included?List host, SSL, backups and infrastructure charges; confirm outage responsibility and account access.
  4. What maintenance is done?Confirm update frequency, security checks, post-update checks, backup retention and restoration support.
  5. How do I get help?Ask about tickets, included time, channel, hours, response target and resolution expectations.
  6. What costs extra?Check onboarding, repairs, new pages, copy, design, development, eCommerce work and third-party fees.
  7. What if I leave?Confirm ownership/access, backup handover and how the site stays operational after cancellation.

Compare year one and renewal years separately; include onboarding only when stated, use confirmed VAT and list optional work apart. Match the plan to the site’s business impact, not its label.

06 / Maslen Digital

A small, defined care service.

Maslen Website Care is currently €25/month at its launch price. It includes managed hosting, SSL, uptime monitoring, backups, routine technical/security maintenance, support and up to 15 minutes of minor edits monthly. Larger changes are agreed at €40/hour or by fixed quote.

Available after launch, particularly for eligible Maslen-built sites; other sites depend on review. The first month may be included at launch. Infrastructure-heavy sites may need a separate arrangement. There is no 24/7 response promise, uptime SLA, unlimited support or unlimited development.

The live page does not state VAT treatment. Read exact Website Care terms or use the quote form to discuss fit.

07 / Sources & method

How we checked these figures.

Provider pages were checked on 28 October 2026. Figures reproduce the linked public offers, which may change; they are not an audited survey or national average. Each provider’s written terms take precedence.

VAT: Eolas says ex VAT; OTTA says it is not VAT-registered and adds no VAT; InstaIT lists all three tiers + VAT; Digitally Sound says + VAT. Greenberry, DigiMark and Design Wave do not state VAT treatment. Setup fee is not stated by Eolas, OTTA, DigiMark, InstaIT, Digitally Sound or Design Wave; Greenberry lists €199 onboarding. Ask providers to confirm any unstated charge and compare only matching scope.

08 / Common questions

Website maintenance costs: FAQs.

How much does website maintenance cost in Ireland?

The cited offers range from €30/month for a defined technical tier to €500/month for a broader plan with up to eight work hours. They are different provider offers, not a national average; platform, condition, hosting and scope determine fit.

Is website hosting included in a maintenance plan?

Sometimes. Eolas and OTTA’s managed plan include hosting; Greenberry is for external sites and Design Wave charges hosting separately. Confirm who supplies the server, SSL and backups, and who handles host outages.

Do I need WordPress maintenance if my site is custom-built?

Not automatically. Custom sites still need an owner for dependencies, hosting, backups, security updates and recovery. Define those tasks with a developer familiar with the architecture.

Should I pay monthly or annually?

Compare total cash cost, renewal terms and flexibility. Annual payment may discount the fee but is upfront; include onboarding, confirmed VAT and separate hosting.

Does a maintenance plan cover website edits?

Only as stated: plans may set minutes, hours, tickets or update limits. Ask what counts as a minor edit, how to request it and how larger work is priced.

Will the provider fix an existing broken website?

Not necessarily. Malware, major faults or unstable software may need a separate assessment or repair before care begins. Ask whether diagnosis and initial checks are included.

Does a response time mean the issue will be fixed by then?

Not necessarily. A target may mean first response, not resolution. Confirm its wording, working hours, escalation route and whether out-of-hours cover is included.

How can I compare two maintenance quotes fairly?

Give both providers the same brief. Compare scope, hosting, backups, work allowance, VAT, onboarding, response terms and exclusions; calculate year one and renewal separately.
